Privacy Policy
Recapta is a YouTube learning companion that lets you capture video moments, transcripts, notes, screenshots, and AI-generated summaries. This policy explains what information Recapta handles and how it is used.
Information Recapta handles
Depending on the features you choose to use, Recapta may handle:
- YouTube page URLs, video titles, timestamps, visible captions, and transcripts.
- Screenshots that you explicitly capture from the active YouTube tab.
- Notes, saved moments, summaries, and questions you enter in the extension.
- API keys and integration settings that you provide for optional services.
How information is used
Recapta uses this information only to provide its user-facing features, including saving moments, displaying and searching transcripts, generating summaries, answering questions, and exporting content at your request.
Local storage and retention
Recapta stores captured moments, screenshots, notes, API keys, and preferences in Chrome's local extension storage on your device. Recapta does not operate an account system or a production server that stores this information. Information remains on your device until you delete it, clear the extension's storage, or uninstall the extension.
Optional third-party services
Recapta connects to third-party services only when needed for a feature you initiate and only if you have configured the relevant integration:
- Google Gemini receives transcript or note content when you request an AI summary or answer. Requests are sent directly from the extension using your API key.
- Supadata may receive a YouTube video URL to retrieve a transcript when captions are otherwise unavailable and you have supplied a Supadata API key.
- Notion receives content that you explicitly choose to export, using the Notion credentials and destination that you provide.
- Obsidian receives content that you explicitly choose to export through a local service running on your own device.
These providers process information under their own privacy policies and terms. Recapta does not sell, rent, or trade your information.
Permissions
Recapta uses Chrome permissions to open its side panel, access the active YouTube tab after a user action, capture the visible tab, communicate with its bundled YouTube content script, and store user-created content and settings locally. It does not use these permissions for advertising or unrelated browsing activity.
Data sharing and prohibited uses
Recapta does not sell user data, use it for personalized advertising, transfer it for creditworthiness or lending purposes, or use it for purposes unrelated to the extension's single purpose. Data is disclosed only to the optional service needed to perform an action that you request, as described above, or when required by law.
Security
API keys are stored in Chrome's local extension storage and are sent only to the service for which they were provided. No method of electronic storage or transmission is completely secure, so absolute security cannot be guaranteed.
Your choices
You can use Recapta without configuring optional export services. You can remove saved moments and notes in the extension, revoke or replace API keys through the relevant provider, clear the extension's local storage, or uninstall Recapta to remove locally stored extension data.
Children's privacy
Recapta is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated when Recapta's features or data practices change. The effective date at the top of this page will identify the latest revision.
